The IRB’s activity has substantially increased over the last decade, as Tables 1 through 3 and Figures 1 and 2 indicate (all tables and figures refer to August to July academic years).  During the last decade, the IRB’s activity had grown over 136%, going from 154 applications reviewed in 1997 to 364 applications last year.  Even this, however, is somewhat misleading since last year’s load was down approximately 22% over the previous year.  Given our current activity levels so far this year, we are likely to increase the number of applications reviewed by approximately 17%, to a total of around 427 applications.

It should be noted that unlike any other committee on campus, the IRB continues it’s work through holidays and breaks so that researchers are not delayed in getting their proposals reviewed.  Further, unlike other committees, the IRB requires both a special skill set to competently perform required duties and on-going training.IRB Submissions  |  Totals by College  |  Totals by Type of Review  |   Comparable IRB Activities
