Intellectual Property Policy

The University has an Intellectual Property policy (PDF document) for faculty, staff and students regarding the ownership of intellectual property that may be the subject of copyright or patent protection. This policy provides for the distribution of royalties for intellectual property that has partial or total ownership by the University. Inventions developed by faculty, staff and students are be disclosed in accordance with the procedures described in this policy.

This policy includes the establishment of a University Intellectual Property Committee appointed by the President. The committee will make recommendations on procedures, guidelines and responsibilities for the administration and development of intellectual property.

This policy was approved by the Missouri State University Board of Governors on May 19, 2000.

The University also has a General Statement on Copyright Policy that covers the "fair use" of copyright material.
