HIPAA Training

• HIPAA Privacy and Security Training

  • Required for all persons who will have access to protected health information (PHI) as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).  Access is restricted to those who have an Missouri State User Name and Password.  Certification of completion is handled electronically at the end of the module.
  • Certification of completion is required for anyone who will have access to PHI in a research project.

• HIPAA Security Training

  • The federal HIPAA Security Rule requires additional training, new policies and procedures for the Security Rule portion of the law.
  • Access and certification requirements are similar to the Privacy and Security Training.
  • Training to learn about specific processes and procedures that have been implemented in your Unit for safeguarding Electronic Protected Health Information (EPHI) and enforcing the HIPAA Security Rule.

• HIPAA Training for Researchers

  • Required for all persons who will have access to PHI in a research project.
  • Access and certification requirements are similar to the Privacy and Security Training.
  • Off-campus researchers participating in Missouri State research projects can be granted access via procedures described under Application for Review and Approval of Activity Involving Human Participants.
