Category of Costs that do not fit elsewhere
In most cases, this category is reserved for items that cost more than an amount specified by the sponsoring organization, and have a useful life of more than one year. The Federal government considers items costing $5,000 or more as fitting into the equipment category.However, in accordance with University Policy, items costing $5,000 or more will be considered as equipment. Depending on the sponsoring organization, ownership of equipment may reside with the sponsor and they may expect it to be returned at the conclusion of the project.
Purchases of equipment should include requests for funds for maintenance and repairs that might be anticipated during the project (these funds should be requested in either the following category or under "Other").
Project directors will be responsible for complying with both University and Sponsor's regulations regarding purchasing and record keeping.
